Fast, faster, eKart

“I’m particularly proud of the end product. Seeing it going at the end was for me confirmation that everything worked out all right.”

Emre Akkurt, apprentice automotive mechatronics technician

To develop and build something completely new – and to do so during an apprenticeship? From the idea and the design planning through to the finished product: this development process is in itself a long path with numerous hurdles. And to do it all with the emphasis on sustainability?

Daniel and Emre, aspiring automotive mechatronics technicians, have risen to this challenge. Working with experienced colleagues, they have constructed an electric-powered kart that is sustainable and, at the same time, extremely quick and manoeuvrable. The personal freedom they enjoyed within the project, as well as the responsibility that came with it, has made the project something very special for these two trainees.

Experience it up close, with all the emotion and excitement. Rahel Frey, Audi Sport’s factory racing driver, tested the eKart on the Audi Driving Experience racetrack – and she was impressed by its performance. You can see Rahel’s verdict on her test drive and find out all about the eKart project in our video.

Training with backing

Marcel, 29, Personalabteilung

“When you know for certain that you can come back to your employer afterwards, it frees your mind. I was able to concentrate fully on my studies and gain a lot of experiences abroad. Audi has also benefited, because I have come back even better trained and more experienced than before. After my studies, I was able to get back on board seamlessly.”

If there is anyone who can tell you exactly how "training" works at Audi and what the company does for its employees, it is Marcel. The 29-year-old works in the human resources department and has received very active support from Audi on his own professional journey.

More details

“I can only advise young students to come here and see what we have for them with their own eyes. Then they can gain valuable experiences and decide for themselves if Audi is good for them.”

Marcel, 29, Human Resources

Marcel started in 2007 as an industrial clerk in Ingolstadt and went back to school for three more years a little bit later to graduate. Audi had given him a guarantee of reinstatement. "It was very motivating for me to get this backing from Audi. This means that employees who train in the company's sense, will be guaranteed an equivalent position upon their return to the company." In this phase, Marcel often used his time during the holidays to work at Audi in HR or sales.

After the "Abitur" Marcels history repeated itself. He studied business administration in Regensburg and in Colorado, USA.

Today Marcel is working in human resources. For a long period of time he worked for the junior programs and the employer branding. Now, his focus is on the right strategies and innovations in the HR sector. The offspring is still close to his heart, though. "I can only advise young students to come here and see what we have for them with their own eyes. Then they can gain valuable experiences and decide for themselves if Audi is good for them." It doesn’t matter whether talents come from the IT sector or the classic mechanical engineering sector. Marcel is sure that Audi has a surprise in store for many young talents: "Younger people have a certain picture in mind about how a huge company like Audi ticks. But Audi is the opposite. Audi is not an old economy giant. Gather your own experiences and find out how it really is!"
